Blog 5

It all started when the two older girls went off to college in New York and lived with each other. Whitney pretty much had everything going for her, was a very good, hard-working girl and didn't get into too much trouble while Kirsten loved the boys and drinking, just like any other freshman would like. Kirsten kind of dropped the whole modeling career and didn't care too much for it because one morning she came right from bed, hung over and arrived with a big hicky on her neck from the night before. The photographers could barely cover it up it was so large and in pictures she thought it was funny because you could see a big brown blob. after the girls had been living with each other for about four months, kirsten started calling their mom to warn her that Whitney was acting weird. She noticed that she had been loosing weight, had a big attitude and became snippy with Kirsten and hardly seemed to be eating anything. although whitney had kind of always been moody, annabel's parents really weren't too concerned about her. She was in a very difficult and competitive market with all the pressure of her appearance. they just thought that as she gained confidence things would simply just even out and get better. Then one day for thanksgiving, whitney and kirsten flew down to visit the family and there was a noticably big change from the time she looked than, to now. it was a shock to everyone because she showed up with wearing sweatpants and a turtle neck, no make-up and pale skin, while kirsten had rosy pink cheeks, a nice pink sweater and bright blue eyes. As annabel's mom asked whitney if she was okay, she answered, "i'm fine" but kirsten informed everyone that she wasn't and that she didn't eat and she was just killing herself.

I read a chapter last night and it was once again about her mom's depression and her modeling career. A quote that made me think about career's was, "i nodded, then leaned forward to kiss her just above her cheek, so as not to smudge my lipstick." this quote really reminds me of annabel and her modeling career. all her sisters grew up modeling since they were toddlers and/or younger. i think that would be so interesting and such a different life style to be grown into a family who models. Annabel is continuously getting offers and appointments set up to go and model for certain companies...he mom has always been there to take the girls to their photo shoots, but during her rough days, she hasn't been too up to it. if i was to chose whether or not to be a model i don't know if i would do it these days. i used to want to always be a model and i did one time get an offer. but now a days, the rules seem so much more strict and not being able to eat with kill me. my dad has always not been a big fan of me modeling just because of weight issues and getting into always needing to look perfect, he says "go natural". It depends on also how much time it takes out of your life, considering i have other sports and comp cheerleading preoccuping my life right now, there would be no time. annabel seems to enjoy it yet she really is only a model because both of her older sisters were. whitney, anabel's oldest sister had always been really thin and had a perfect modeling body, while kirsten and anabel had gorgeous faces, but the photographers always seemed to be telling them they were a little too plump or short to get "serious printwork". that's another reason why i wouldn't want to be a model, especially if i was born into it because of my older sisters is because i would feel so much pressure to always look good and be skinny. i would just like to eat whatever i want!

I don't know if i'm quite so into this book as i thought i would be, but i still have enjoyed it! Honestly, I haven't had that much time to read it just because I've been reading In the Time of the Butterflies so much... (which i love by the way AND i've been reading when i'm suppose to so i'm all caught up!)

For this blog, i am going to elaborate about what i think about a quote.... which is the following:
" my mother's condition quickly grew to dictate our lives." this quote explains how annabels mom became depressed to a certain point were it would effect the girls lives as well. they always knew if she was going to have a good day or bad day by the way she looked/dressed in the morning. If annabel woke up and her mom was in the kitchen, making breakfast at a decent hour, she was in a good mood, and seemed like she was going to have a better day. If their dad was in the kitchen instead of their mom or there was cold cereal and toast, that meant their mom was still in bed and going to have a bad, rough day. anabelle really goes through so much, especially loosing her best friend after getting in a very sassy fight, a mom that is depressed severely and a sister with an eating disorder. so far, i feel like annabel is handleing the situations well, and not freaking out quite yet. i honestly don't know what i would do without a mother. my mom means the world to me and i could never live without her because my family would be totally lost. it's different because i don't have any sisters and annabel has all sisters. but at some points i wish i did have an older sister to look up to. i'm very thankful for my family and brothers.

So i was completely wrong. haha! it wasn't whitney that sarah dessen had quite introduced yet, it was kirsten. Kirsten was the braty sister of Annabel and i also realized that it was really just a flashback on Annabel and Sophie. At first it was very confusing and that's probably why i messed a few things up.
Anyways.... as i kept reading it was much more clear and i found it better because it was now modern day as they were teenagers, when  i was reading before and confused, they just in middle school.  Now a days, Annabel really doesn't have any friends and several of people that used to be her friend now aren't because of Sophie. When Annabel and Sophie got in their fight over the summer, she had turned everyone against Annabel. How mean is that... it's one thing to be in a fight with a girlfriend and then make-up afterwards, but it's another thing when the girl is a b**** and makes everyone as well as her hate you. I feel really bad for Annabel in this situation for not only one reason. Since she already has a hard time at home, and i am gradually being introduced to her older sister, Whitney, it puts much more stress and pressure when she doesn't have friends. Whitney is a very quite girl. Kirsten is a very obnoxious, loud, bratty girl. Annabel falls right in the middle between the two sisters.

Blog 1

I realized that there is so much drama in this story. The great thing about that though is that it really keeps me wanting to read and luers me in. Anabelle Green is a teenage girl who has two sisters and grows up being a very pretty young girl and model. She is a cheerleader, popular (well used to be) and her sister, Whitney, is very outspoken and comes off to be a brat. Last summer, apparently Anabelle and one of her best friends got in a huge fight. Ending their relationship, Anabelle's friend, Sophie, spread non-stop rumors and talked so much crap behind her back. One day when anabelle was at the pool with her friend Clark, who she had been friends with since they were tiny children, saw a younger girl wearing a skimpy bikini and lying in a lawn chair where the "cool" kids would usually sit. She seemed to look about their age, and Annabel seemed much more interested in her than Clarke. The reasoning behind this was because normally the town that they lived in everyone knew everybody just because it was so small. When Annabel had gotten up to get a coke at the pool side tiki hut, she noticed the unfamiliar girl waiting in line as well. She caught herself staring at her because, the teenager made the famous rude comment of, "what are you looking at?" Annabel didn't say anything back but a "nothing" because i think she may have been a little embarresed.
Whitney was a brat. After she was done tanning and reading her magazine at the pool, she left Annabel to walk home. While at dinner that night, Whitney complained about the girl following her and her friends EVERYWHERE they went. Even though the strange teenager didn't say a peep, she just stood there listening to their conversations. Whitney tried to tell her to leave them alone and "bug off" but nothing seemed to make her flee. Then their mom had brought up something about a new family that had just moved in. They made the connection of the new family and then girl being one of people that must have moved in. Annabel's mom was very polite and expected her kids to be very proper and polite as well so she made/suggested Annabel to introduce herself and take time to meet her.

Blog Reflection

I chose to read the book Just Listen by Sarah Dessen. There were a few different reasons of why I chose to read this book. First of all, the cover itself looked like something i would like and i really liked the sound of the title. Sarah Dessen is a New York Times best selling author-so she must write great stories! Another reason why i wanted to read it was because the inside cover summary sounded interesting.... it's about a young teenage girl named annabel greene who was a cheerleader (like me), popular, well known, and had lots of friends at her highschool. But apparently this wasn't the case at home. Annabel had a sister who struggles with an eating disorder which occupies the family and all the drama of her life. As she goes through rough times at home, she tries to cover it up at school because she doesn't have the ability or confidence to tell anyone about it. Lastly, it meets the page requirements so that's good!- I'm really excited to read this book and i'm hoping it will be a good one!

I read a novel a while ago, which i can't say was a bad one because i loved it! but my sisters keeper is about a couple of teenage girls who are sisters and they struggle for their lives. I have always really enjoyed jodi picoult books, especially this one. Kate, who is diagnosed with leukemia goes through many surgeries and struggles for her life, while her sister anna is along her side. Anna was pretty much born to save her sister's life; she gives kate blood transfusions and on top of that, goes through many surgeries as well, for the better of her sister. It is a tough situation for the both of them because one, anna isn't even sick or diagnosed with anything and has to go through it all with her sister, and two, kate struggles to overcome leukemia. they go through long, painful hours and days, sticking together to overcome the odds of their struggle. I won't tell you what happens at the end of the story because you will have to read it. I really recommend it and Picoult's other books as well!

Love can be one of the most amazing feelings, or one of the worst feelings. There is a point in time where it may break your heart or mend it. Love doesn't just mean you and a parnter have strong feelings for each other. You can love your neighbors, brothers, sisters, parents, friends to a great extent as well. There is always the saying, "love is such a strong word". I do have to agree with that to some point, but I love so many people in many other different ways too. During a relationship the love factor may be tough. It may become an obstacle. There is also the saying, "love at first sight." I always wonder if that is actually true... if you could just love someone right then and there, just by the first look of them. Although it may be figurative speech and possibly just meaning, "oh, they are so handsome, i'm in love," I feel like they could actually have the feelings for that one person. When things fade in a relationship and the love is gone, that's when breaking your heart comes into place. Having your heart broken can be one of the most difficult feelings to overcome. "A kiss is a lovely trick, designed by nature, to stop words when speech becomes superfluous."--Ingrid Bergmen. This quote truely explains love, I think. When words aren't showing enough and you love the person and want to express more of your feelings, other than speaking, a kiss can do the trick! Love can be great and love can be bad. Love IS a strong word but can be dealt with and used it many ways.

WAR: Fueled by Coca, Peru’s Rebel War Reignites

The article I read about war was all based off of DRUGS. More specifically, cocaine. Four people were shot dead, including a pregnant women and two children by the first soldiers that came to Rio Seco. Rio Seco was a coca growing village in the mountain jungles of southern Peru. As families fled, a war that terrorized the country for two decades may be coming back. Supposively ending in 2000, the war against the Shining Path rebels took place and took nearly seventy thousand lives. The Shining Path was rebuliding on the profits of Peru's thriving cocaine trade. In the jungle of Vizcatán was Peru’s largest producer of coca, the raw ingredient for cocaine. Coca that was a raw leaf being chewed since the Spanish conquest is very legal, but cocaine is very illegal. Peru’s estimated cocaine production rose to a 10-year high of about 290 tons, second only to Colombia. Four months after the soldiers had first arrived, the guerrillas came and accused the villagers of collaborating with the military. They were horrible and killed at least 26 people in 2008, including 22 soldiers and police officers, the bloodiest year in almost a decade, according to security analysts. Drugs, drugs, drugs... it is amazing how things can occurr and how reved up people can get over money and drugs. Cocaine is a very big drug and clearly was fought over.

Colozination: A Survival Imperatice for Space

This article that I read seemed somewhat strange to me. A man by the name of Dr. Gott did some research and was trying to come up with ways to predict years/days/weeks.. etc. of what comes in the future. For example, with scientific certainty he predicted humans would survive for at least another five thousand one hundred more years. These predictions of time are called scientific forecasts. DR. Gott used his technique to forecast the amount of Broadway plays, newspapers, dogs and his most recent was the tenure in office of the hundreds of political leaders around the world. His assumption was called the Copernican Principle which is named after the astronomer who assumed he wasn't seeing the universe from a special spot in the center. Through his way you have a 2.5 percent chance that it's the least and 2.5 percent chance that it's the longest time. So either way, you would be accurately 95 percent correct. Dr. G. says that the beauty of the Copernican formula is that it allows you to make predictions of the future without even knowing any of the information. I feel like this man is one of those people who strive to be different and figure out random, weird things to show off the world. It is very interesting yet I don't know if I would ever think in those terms, that is scientific forecasts. After all, if colonization is common and there’s nothing special about our civilization, why haven’t we already colonized other worlds? Why aren’t we colonists ourselves from a civilization somewhere else?

Global Issues: Forest Loss in Sumatra Becomes a Global Issue

I read an article from the new york times about a forest loss.

The picture to the right is a a burned stump from a once dense forest that stands in a field being cleared for a palm oil plantation in Sumber, Indonesia. Many companies have been trying to get their hands on any land they can because there is a global demand for palm oil. Palm oil is used in cosmetics, cooking, etc. Throughout Indonesia there has been more than 60 percent of the forests being logged, burned and pulped, according to a local environmental group. Deforestation has become a huge problem. Deforestation is when the carbon that is stored in the trees is released into the atmosphere. Indonesia releases more carbon dioxide through deforestation than any other country. Indonesia has been trying to promote the carbon-trading plan for months because of their financial interest in the palm oil industry and the growing international demands for conservation. Corruptions is their biggest concern right now, says critics.

I read another article in the Star Tribune and this article is about the Pope telling Jewish leaders he will visit Isreal. This is a big deal because the Pope wins praise from the Holocaust denial, and will visit Isreal in May. This visit really touches the Jewish leaders. I think it's a great thing for the Pope to do, because if one visit can make so many people happy and change the looks of their church then he definetily should do it. There has also only been one other Pope who has traveled to a Jewish state. The American Jewish orginization had a meeting with the Pope and bishops and were deneying things that happened in the holocaust. They said that the slaughter of six million Jews was a crime agaisnt God. I do not know if I believe this because God does not make crimes under my belief, the holocaust was a horrible thing that we cannot erase. I wish more then anything it did not happen, but we cannot always deny the things that happened, but maybe they are right. I would like to know how this visit goes and what happens.

Bollywoood: On the back lot at the other bollywood.

Bollywood is Indias California Hollywood! The hindu-language movie industry is the world's largest, even topping Hollywood. I think the movie we watched in class was very interesting and kept me intrigued. Usually in movies that we watch in class, I lose focus quickly or get bored. The thing I enjoy about Bollywood films was all the singing... I tend to like things like that. For some reason, they come off very cheesy and all the singers and dancers are lip-syncing. Hollywood's films are much different in a variety of reasons including... length, drama, plots, actors/actresses, scenes, music, choreography, etc. For example a Hollywood film may look something like this: an hour and twenty minutes long, female and male characters (usually tend to be caucasian or african american, but not always), often times there is not singing/dancing involved, it could be a drama, action pact, comedy, romance genre but not always combined all into one and there isn't lip-syncing stuff. A bollywood film is so much different because it is all the genres combined making the movie overall about four hours long. The films are usually female and male characters as well but I found that there were many more indians and people from those countries that played the roles. They lip-synced, and there was lots of dancing, music and singing (more like a musical). Bollywood is very popular and interesting and I enojyed watching the film about it in class!

Culture: 2 families, 2 very different cultures and the little girl between them from New York Times

I read an article about a young mexican girl named Linda. She was used to eating tortillas, taking care of her younger sibilings, being abused, and translating Spanish to english and vice versa, for her mom's benefit. with a dramatic change of a judge's say, she now temperarilly lives in a ranch house with a swimming pool in the backyard, and her own bed to sleep in. There will be a custody trail, debating whether Linda will live back in Mexico with little to none opportunities or in Tennesse in a foster home with all the care she needs. The culture in Mexico and the culture in America have two totally different outlooks. In Mexico, many families consist of numerous children who take care of one another, tortillas, not a lot of money, a rough, low paying job and more. While in America, there are much better opportunities to succeed, more money circulating with higher paying jobs, and smaller families where the adults are usually able to watch over their own kids and feed them. Linda is living the life and it has been such a drastic change for her to have lived in Mexico and then move to Tennesse and be able to play in the driveway with a basketball. First Linda lived with the first teacher she met, and soon moved in with the Pattersons, a family who now wants to adopt her.

Fact: "There is at least a third of those who are Mixtecs, who come from a poor area of central Mexico and whose language and culture keep them isolated here in the United States, even from other Hispanics."

Change-Any kind of change: New York Times- Tough Life, divorced, and depressed children.

There is always room for change. Everyday, something changes, whether it is what you wear from day to day or your stocks in the bank. Changes can be drastic or small. There is not one day out of the 365 days where the number of people in the world doesn't change because there is always somebody dieing or being born. I read an article about a couple that had 3 kids and when they got a divore everything changed. According to Mary, the mom, her kids went from being A students and in a variety of clubs and sports to getting D's and C's, ditching and falling out of their clubs because of the pressure they were going through. Divorced parents can be not only rough on relationships but also the kids. They are put in a position of despair and not knowing what to do with themselves. The worst thing adults can do is fight and argue in front of their children.. it causes stress, despression and sadness within the child. Lots of times the parents may move far apart from one another, if both parents have custody of the children, they are to move back and forth between the two. Breaks can be good, but also bad. Kelly, Eric and Melissa had a difficult time going between the two houses, it started to become to much for them to handle. Although they didn't have to deal with their parents fighting in front of them anymore didn't mean that within the kids relationships they didn't have problems now. Changes occurr everyday and will always be happening around you. Be aware of the changes around you, there are always good or great changes, and unfortunately bad ones.

HOPE
THe title of the article made me want to read more and find out what twas about. It was called after a devastating birth injury, hope and had a picuture of african americans in white clothes sitting there, looking really sad and depressed.
The article was about 2 young swahili girls at the ages of 16 and 17 who gave birth to dead babies which took days on end to actually give birth, and then the mothers ended up with an injury. The injury was known as fistula which is an inside wound which left them soaked in urine and incontinent. As they waited for a surgeon at their regional hospital in Dodoma because the other operations failed, they were in extreme pain. Finally Ms. Jonas and ms swalehe (2 girls who needed the surgery) took a bus to a hot city for their operation which was paid for by a charitable group, amref. This foundation brought doctors in to do the operation and also teach the other doctors and nurses in parts of Tanzania how to repair fistulas and take care of their patients. Obstructed labor can also kill the mother or crush her bladder, uterus and vagina between her pelvic bones and the baby’s skull. This is where the injured tissue dies and creates a fistula. a fistula is a hole that lets pee constantly stream out of the female organ. Usually in this situation when women had a fistula, their family would throw them out, or build a seperate hut for them. The doctors gave them hope of regaining a normal life after the surgery was finally provided.

religion/spirituality/belief/non-belief
I read an article from New York Times about a man that traveled to Scandinavia. His name was Phil Zuckerman; he informed us that Denmark and Sweden were a couple of the least religious nations in the world. Mr. Zuckerman iss a sociologist who teaches at Pitzer College in California, and he was surprised on what he noticed. Many of the people he interviewed considered themselves atheists, but also called themselves Christians, even though they denied many of the Christian teachings. Zuckerman said they, "often disinclined or hesitant to talk with me about religion, and even once they agreed to do so, they usually had very little to say on the matter.” This is interesting... because it seems to me like the people didn't believe in God whatso ever and seemed to be very abrupt and didn't have anything to say about religiion. Lots of people believe in many different gods/goddesses, spirts, and just simply have different beliefs. Sometimes, i don't even know if i believe in God. Just because there is a story we are suppose to follow and believe in, follow the rules and etc... doesn't mean that God is neccessarily a real creature that created the world. I think it is so tough to wrap your mind around and I think that anyone can believe what they want. Tis okay to not even believe in anything.

"A person's gender role is composed of several elements and can be expressed through clothing, behavior, choice of work, personal relationships and other factors."
Yeah, a woman is known for cleaning and cooking, while the man fixes cars and cuts down trees but everything has changed today. Although some may still clean, cook, and aquire the "stay at home" mom, others are hard working and succeed in the world. And I know plenty of dads who are considered the "stay at home" moms to this day.
I read one of the main articles about Gender Roles and Feminism....
It states that nearly 100 years ago and still today women are fighting for the same rights as men. Even in upscale resturants, states New York Times, they are decorated and vibed through the different gender characteristics; some attract more men than others and vice versa.
Usually with a relationship that is with the same-sex, the work is generally divided evenly says New York Times. While in heterosexual relationships, an uneven portion of household responsiblilties fall upon the woman.

Culture different from mine:

All around the world there are different cultures and beliefs in such a variety of things. I have a good friend who has a totally different culture and background than me and she believes in really different things. Most of the time, I think "ahh that's weird" or ask "why do you think that?" just because it is so different from me. I like to go out on the weekends and hang out with boys, but what she and her parents believe is that she can't be with boys, and she is only allowed to marry boys who are within the same culture.
Another differing culture that I find interesting are what people wear. Some cultures believe in wearing certain outfits and covering themselves up. This is so different from me because I wear whtaever i want and there really isn't anything that i'm "suppose" to wear. I think it's really cool to see and learn about other cultures because that's what makes everyone so different and unique.

Overcoming struggle/facing difficulty.

I am reading a book called Just Listen which is about a teenage girl named Annabelle who has somewhat of a rough life. Not only because of her actions and decisions within school and friends, but also because of her sisters. Annabelle is a popular cheerleader at her highschool with what seems to have everything she ever wanted... but no one knows about her family back at home. Her sister goes through difficult situations and is noticed with an eating disorder. She'll maybe eat a strawberry for breakfast and a couple saltine crackers for lunch... Annabelle realizes the problem and tries to confront her and let her parents know that she needs help. Since her sister is off at college it is harder for the family to find aid and help her out. Both of the girls are models and this also puts a lot of pressure on being super thin. I would consider an eating disorder a very difficult disease to overcome and a very hard thing to face. It is a mental disease that may possibly never go away. Once you get a mind set that you will never eat again, or vomit all your food up, you are in for a journey of terror. I will have to keep reading to find out what happens and if Annabelle's sister will overcome her struggle of anorexia.

Natural disaster ARE disasters. They can take out many a time, or just few. Natural disasters aren't just trees falling down in a forest, or a flood from the ocean... they can be hurricanes, earthquakes, tsunamis, wild fires, landslides/mudslides, etc! There is so much and so much time to be into doing this job. Marilena Marignani is a plastic surgeon with dark hair and large eyes and large cheekbones. As practicing a nose job on a cadaver she is talking with another doctor, she poked at an edge of a yolk colored blob. Apparently the blob is known among plastic surgeons as the malar fat pad. "malar" means relating to the cheek. The malar fat pad is the cushion of youthful padding that sits high on your cheekbone (zigoma-medical terms) and also the things that grandmothers pinch!
More facts and interesting things:
over the years, gravity coazes the fat from its roost, and it commences a downward slide, piling up at the first anatomical roadblock it reaches: the nasolabial folds ( the anatomical parenthese that run from the edges of a middle-aged nose down to the corners of the mouth.) the result is that the cheeks start to look bony and sunken, and bulgy parenthese of fat reinforce the nasolabial lines. During facelifts, surgeonsput the malar fat pad back up where it started out. That is more of a scientific way of looking at it, but in other words, the cheeks get saggy when you grow old and that bony, sunken look is when you get a face-lift to bring the malar (fatty stuff) back to where it was to look young again!

"Though perhaps there ought to be a box for people to check, or not check, on their body donor form: okay to use me for cosmetic purposes"
I just wanted to explain this quote... Would you want to be a donor for cosmetic purposes??
Well, i wouldn't neccesssairly want to be a donor/cadaver to be worked on and practice nose jobs to, and face lifts. i would rather check that box before i die to be a donor for my organs. i haven't yet gotten my license or permit, however when i do i am planning on being a donor. I mean why wouldn't you donate your organs to a person who is trying to survive and live through surgery, rather than not doing anything with them, and possibly going to waste.
I though this little paragraph part in the book was funny...
"*i am a believer in organ and tissue (bone, cartilage, skin) donation, but was startled to learn that donated skin that isn't used for, say, grafting onto burn victims may be processed and used cosmetically to plump up wrinkles and aggrandize penises. while i have no preconceived notions of the hereafter, i stand firm in my conviction that it should not take the form of someone else's underpants."

The next character we are introduced to is Yvonne and her job is to saw off the heads of the cadavers. EW! People wonder and ask her what that is like and she says she thinks of them as wax. Also the best way to deal with cadavers and people who work with them is to think more of them as objects not people. For example, it compares to us eating animals very well. It's is much the same reason as of why we call our meat "beef" and "pork" and don't refer to them as cow and pig. When referring to them like that it is much less appetizing/ same goes for people who work with cadavers... it's all about the depersonzlizing and objectification.
Fact: a injection of saline is used to freshen the cadavers.
Yvonne is also the lab manager, the person responsible when things go wrong.

Practicing surgery on the dead:
The first character that we get introduced to is Theresa. Cadaver heads are being put in roasting pans, as they explain, to collect the drippings, just as a chicken is put in a roasting pan to catch the drippings as well. The doctors that work with cadavers must have guts. When i go to funerals and they have open casscets it is kind of scary looking at the dead people in them, not going to lie. Roach uses good describing words such as this wordy sentence, "It surprises me to hear that men and women who spend their days pruning eyelids and vacuuming fat would require anything in the way of soothing..." just the words pruning and vacuuming are perfect describing words, because i can picture in my head exactly what that may look like. When the docs enter the room that has the dead bodies in it they are covered except for the head, and their heads are shaved down to a stubble. And according to the docs they are bloody and rough. I don't think this would be the job for me:/

I started a novel called Stiff by Mary Roach. I bought the book at an airport one day when I was off to Florida! I thought it would be an interesting book to get into. There were a couple reasons of why i chose this one. First of all, the front cover looked intreguing, with the bottom of the feet showing and a sub title of The curious lives of human cadavers.... This leads to my second reason, i love this kind of stuff, dealing with bodies (dead or alive i suppose), and medical issues or stories. It is also a new york times bestseller... so it really must be good. The first page has already caught my attention with this line..."The way i see it, being dead is not terribly far off from being on a cruise ship. Most of your tme is spent lying on your back." This could be taken differently for different folks, but the way i see it is that it's comparing and saying that a ship is just a lifeless transportation. Now because no one knows what it is like when you're gone, until you actually die, this could mean many different ideas. I feel like heaven or hell, wherever you end up, could be like another life... and what i mean by that is, it could be crazy and moving and lots of camotion. The way that the author describes it as though is a dead person just lying there, on your back. Yes, that is what the human eye sees when they see a dead person/cadaver. but we will never know what is going on inside that person, or where the soul takes you. All in all, i wouldn't neccessarily compare a dead person to a ship who just lies on their back.

My cousin's boyfriend just recently got in a car accident and died. He was 24 years young and it was devistating to hear about it. The conditions outside were horrible, and he simply made an arrond to target to get my cousin a pair of sweatpants because she was chilly. There are choices that have to be made and we make thousands a day. The first question and decision we have to make is, "should I get up and out of bed this morning?" "What should i eat for breakfast?" Car accidents are one of the most common tradgedies, and i feel horrible for everyone that has to go through the pain... there was a young girl, 15 years young, and she had her permit. She was driving with her dad in the passanger seat while he little brother was in the back seat. The roads were slippery i am sure, and teens are so young to be driving that she got in a car accident, died, and the other people were dead as well. So in all she killed about 5 people... just driving around. Anything can happen in the blink of an eye, and you have to be so cautious of what is going on around you at all times. THere shouldn't be one minute on the slippery, dangerous, scary roads right now that you can't be paying attention. You never know what is going to happen and what will happen tomorrow. Think before you act is a great saying and lesson!
